Rumor: Get a Free Copy of Pokemon X or Y

Photographs of a promotional campaign suggest that buyers of a new 2DS or 3DS XL, as well as one of six specified titles, will also be entitled to a free download copy of Pokemon X or Y.

Toys R Us

The news comes from GoNintendo, which notes that while the campaign was spotted in a Toys R Us, it doesn’t seem to be linked to the store specifically. The fine print says that registration will need to be done at Club Nintendo during March this year.

Wonder Woman's Azzarello & Chiang Talk About Shocking Death

Warning: Spoilers for Wonder Woman ahead!

At the end of Wonder Woman #28, the First Born fought Apollo atop Mount Olympus and squeezed him so hard that he exploded, apparently killing Apollo. This is a huge development for the series that once again sees power transfer to a new villain.

Also, creative team Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang have said that they are ramping up the action to propel them towards the culmination of the Wonder Woman story they started to tell three years ago. Does this mean that the end is in sight, either for the series or for this creative team? It’s hard to say now because the solicits still list more issues coming for the foreseeable future. But hey, we aren’t complaining that there’s still plenty more Wonder Woman to come!

Assassin's Creed IV Actor Cast as DC's Constantine

NBC has cast the main character in their Constantine pilot, based on the DC Comic. Deadline reports that Welsh actor Matt Ryan (whose credits include Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV) will play the snarky detective. As established in DC Comics, Constantine — first portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the Constantine movie — is a bit of a curmudgeonly antihero. He hunts the supernatural and keeps humans safe, but he doesn’t exactly wake up in the morning feeling excited to save the day.

Darker hair aside, Ryan definitely has the right look to portray the character. Perhaps the hair will change, as Deadline does mention the blue collar Constantine has “scruffy blond hair” and will of course don the requisite trench coat. (Maybe they’ll include a crossover episode with Supernatural where Constantine and Castiel go shopping for new coats together.) Unlike the film, the TV version will keep the character British.

Routine Developer Considering PS4 Port

Lunar Software, the developer of upcoming sci-fi horror game Routine, says that it is considering working on a console port once the PC version is completed.

“If we did do a console version it would be PS4-only,” says Lunar’s Jemma Hughes, speaking directly to IGN. “From a technical standpoint it would be far easier for us to port over as there would be much less need for optimisation.”

The four-person team is currently not considering a port for Xbox One.

“We wouldn’t want to expand to any other consoles as it’s extremely tiring doing the non-creative work,” Hughes explains. “I think we could only handle doing it for one console.” She mentions that Lunar has had interest from other teams in handling ports, but that Lunar is too “protective” of Routine to consider outsourcing at the moment.

Malware on Google Play Store Has Quadrupled Since 2011

The number of malware-infected apps in Google Play’s store has nearly quadrupled between 2011 and 2013, according to security group RiskIQ.

As reported on PC World, more than 42,000 apps in Google’s store contained spyware or information-stealing Trojans. In 2011, that figure was just 11,000.

Apps designed to personalise users’ Android phones were found to be most susceptible, but gaming and entertainment apps were also likely contenders for maliciousness. Possible malware has been found in the Flappy Bird clones that have flooded the store since the original Flappy Bird was taken down.

Helix: "Bloodline" Review

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.

After a couple of rather low-intensity episodes, “Bloodline” ramped things up again with homemade explosives, a decapitation and, most importantly a sense of fun. I think Helix is best when it embraces the camp rather than taking itself too seriously. Case in point, Julia’s hilariously unexpected punking of Alan and Sarah by reenacting a scene from Alien. It’s a pop-cultural wink to the audience but it also shows us just how giddy Julia is. Just a couple days ago she was infested with goo and doomed and now she’s not just well but actually the healthiest she’s ever been.

At this point, the remaining CDC members think Julia’s recovery means they can use her antibodies to synthesize a cure but it turns out she’s not Survivor Zero as she hoped and she doesn’t remember that Hatake shot her up with superhero juice or whatever. She does know she has silver eyes now, and I had to laugh when she asked liar extraordinaire Sarah if she could keep a secret. Yes Julia, she can. Especially if it’s a terrible idea.

Pompeii Review

Director Paul W.S. Anderson is no stranger to apocalyptic movies having made the Resident Evil film series and now he trades in Raccoon City for Pompeii in the year 79 A.D. for this 3D, CG-heavy disaster epic.

Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington plays the lead role of Milo, a slave from Britannia who fights as a gladiator for his Roman overlords under the name “The Celt.” He harbors a deep hatred for the Romans since they slaughtered his parents in front of him as a little boy. Now grown, Milo is shipped off to Pompeii where he will fight in the arena for the seaside town’s wealthy citizens. (The movie depicts Pompeii as basically the Las Vegas or Dubai of the Roman empire.)
